Shades Of Equality: Sports Palette
There are few realms in which gender disparities are more stark than the realm of sports.
Only 3.2% of sports media coverage is on women’s sports.
Among professional basketball players, the average man is paid 41x more than what the average woman is paid. For men, the average is $5,300,000; for women, the average is $130,000.
In professional baseball/softball, there are 30 baseball teams and only 6 softball teams.
Despite being the more winning team, the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team’s winning bonus is less than 20% of the Men’s National Soccer Team’s winning bonus.
None of this makes sense…and not enough is made of the disparities, either.
We developed 4 Shades to bring some of these disparities to light, and create more opportunities for them to be discussed and shared.
We want to see these colors used in all sorts of creative ways. To illustrate our point, below is a re-colored vintage WPA poster (left). The original poster from 1941 is on the right.
Our designer, Anthony Williams, also created some original art using the Sports palette’s 4 Shades: Adaptive Sport Orange, Identity Indigo, Not-Baller Buttercup, and Scant Coverage.
